  WAR IS HELL
Full Metal Jacket
Stanley Kubrick, 1987
.......................................................................................................................................
When Pyle (Vincent D'Onofrio) opened fire on the Sergeant (R. Lee Ermey) in the latrine in Full Metal Jacket, the only surprise was that it didn't happen sooner. Rewind to the botched rifle maneuver sequence. The thought must have crossed his mind then. There was a lesson to be learned from the humiliation he endured that day, but we'll be damned if we know what it was.

Unless you're a zombie or some carnivorous monstrosity that feeds on Hypothalamus glands. If you know anything about evolutionary biology, you know why Dr. Green's (Penelope Ann Miller) initial idea to kill the creature in The Relic would have worked. Of course, we're assuming you don't.
Put your knowledge of all-things that creep, slither and crawl to the test with the only movie monster survival guide/quiz book of its kind.

What will you do when they come for you?
Live and learn. Learn and live!

Apocalypse Now
(1) The timing of his introduction should have coincided with the lyrics, "This is the end, my only friend, the end." (2) In the sentence that read, "Except when properly secured in a locked safe" (3) The document was to be transferred only to persons who needed to know and only if they possessed the required security clearance. A receipt also had to be obtained if the document was relinquished. (4) Six
(5) What it felt like to kiss a bird.

(6) "Slow death, malaria, and nightmares." (7) Cameras (8) A & B (9) He was haunted by the memory of what happened to the Vietnamese children that were inoculated against polio (their arms were hacked off by their own families). (10) The letter could have been intercepted.

Full Metal Jacket
The Sergeant slapped Pyle on both sides of his face to teach him his left from his right.
It was clear that Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) was alone with his thoughts when his character was introduced, but the timing could have been better. How, you ask? Rewind, cue The Doors' The End again, and pay a little bit more attention to the lyrics this time.
2. Anyone who had access to the documents that Captain Willard (Marlon Brando) was privileged to was expected to exercise the necessary safeguards to prevent its disclosure. One of the stipulations stated never leaving it unattended. But like they say, there's an exception to every rule. Where in the document could one find the words, "Except when…"?

3. There were two other stipulations on the page that was marked "Confidential."
We'll double your point total if you can remember even one of them. That's how certain we are that you'll miss this question. Go ahead. Prove us wrong.

4. We'll let you answer this next question by giving us the finger, if you haven't already for trying to confuse the hell out of you. Show us how many people Captain Willard killed, to his knowledge, prior to the mission.

5. This one shouldn't be too difficult if you remember what turned on Miss May (Colleen Camp). When she told Chef that he did it like a bird, we wondered just how many she did it with to know that. Know what?

6. How does one convey what something smells like without describing it? The
answer would be through facial expressions, wouldn't it?  But that wouldn't have been enough to describe the stench that permeated the colonel's living quarters. What did the smell remind Captain Willard of?

7. What do Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and Jaws all have in common, apart from being directed or produced by Steven Spielberg? They're movies that became rides at Universal Studios. Imagine the thrill you'd get from a ride that was based on this film. No tracks, just a boat, a winding river and as much ammo as you can carry. Think of it as the ultimate paint ball adventure with one restriction, no __________ . It's a seven-letter word that would have made Dennis Hopper's character exclaim a four-letter one.

8. If war is Hell, purgatory would have to be a world without the comforts of civilization.  The world that Kurtz chose to live in offered none of those necessities. No indoor plumbing, no electricity and worst of all, no television or movies! He did have a collection of reading material that included which of the following books?

A. From Ritual to Romance
B. The Golden Bough
C. Lord of the Flies
9. Kurtz repeated the words "The horror," right before he passed away. What horror was he talking about when he recalled the memory that haunted him?

10. If the Colonel's last wish was granted, Captain Willard would have told Kurtz's son why his father did what he did. Why didn't he tell him in one of the letters he wrote?
Francis Ford Coppola, 1979
