Unless you're a zombie or some carnivorous monstrosity that feeds on Hypothalamus glands. If you know anything about evolutionary biology, you know why Dr. Green's (Penelope Ann Miller) initial idea to kill the creature in The Relic would have worked. Of course, we're assuming you don't.
Put your knowledge of all-things that creep, slither and crawl to the test with the only movie monster survival guide/quiz book of its kind.

What will you do when they come for you?
Live and learn. Learn and live!

Lights, Camera, Trivia

The Thing
John Carpenter, 1982
An autopsy on the body that was distorted beyond recognition revealed what the men of Station 4 were up against. What they didn't know was that every part of the creature was a whole, and that every little piece was an individual organism with a built-in desire to protect its own life. Not until... Walk us through the scene in question. And then run for your life!
Species
(1) The government facility that was located in that town was Sil's home for the first few months of her life. You won't find her there, but where there's one, there's sure to be another, as long as the code for the creature's DNA sequence still exists. (2) The first message was a superior catalyst for methane that could be used to produce an infinite amount of clean-burning fuel. (3) It was the only home she knew - until an attempt was made to terminate her life. (4) Arden (Alfred Molina) was an expert in cross-cultural behavior.

(5) A single tear ran down his cheek in the film's opening sequence after he whispered the words, "I'm sorry." (6) When Press (Michael Madsen) remarked, "Nobody ever asked me to find anything they didn't want dead." (7) Not to our knowledge other than the fact that the creature hated fire. Find us one that doesn't, other than a Balrog. (8) She detected his flaw (diabetes) when he touched her face. So maybe it took some type of intimate contact. (9) Months (10) Cut to a shot of a rat looking for its next meal. A tongue extends in the blink of an eye to consume another, but not a normal tongue - one that would seem to suggest some other type of… repeat after us, Species!

The Thing
The creature emerged from Norris' (Charles Hallahan) body during the blood serum test.
More questions, more monsters in The Monster Book of Movie Monster Trivia
2. It was once a long-held belief that the basic building blocks for life consisted of a combination of the same six elements: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur and phosphorus. That is, until a tiny microbe was discovered in California's Moon Lake. What makes it unique is that it builds cells with arsenic. Instructions on how to create another (Sil), was the second of two messages received by SETI. What was the first?

3. You remember how Sil (Michelle Williams) escaped from her observation chamber, don't you? It didn't seem to take much of an effort, which begs the question, why wait if she could have done it sooner?

4. The team that was assembled to hunt down Sil (Natasha Henstridge) included a government assassin, an empath and a molecular biologist. Who are we forgetting? Name and area of expertise, please.
5. Never lie to an empath. When Dan (Forest Whitaker) asked Fitch (Ben Kingsley) if he had any remorse about the decision that was made to terminate Sil's life, he replied, "I don't know." That better not be your answer here. What suggested otherwise?

6. Is knowledge more important than life? It is if our only excuse for existing is to think and to find out. That argument couldn't save the creature in the original version of The Thing from Another World, and it wouldn't have saved Sil. When did the team find out that Fitch had no intention of capturing her alive?

7. File this one under the category of It sounded like a good idea at the time. Dr. Baker (Marg Helgenberger) suggested "Growing" another creature using its own DNA for the purpose of studying its vulnerabilities. Did she find any?

8. Rats can sense disease
and genetic damage in a potential mate. So could Sil. Yet, she still went home with the guy she met at the club. Why?

9. They sure do grow up fast, don't they? If Sil's offspring developed at the same accelerated rate, it could have reproduced when it was six. Are we talking weeks here, months or years of age?

10. While mankind works on trying to find a way to regenerate lost limbs, other species continue to evolve beyond that. Take our friend, the cockroach who can live for days without a head. That was how Sil was finally stopped, but it wasn't how the movie ended. Storyboard the last shot of the film for us to the best of your ability.
Roger Donaldson, 1995
Our search for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence begins in Dugway, Utah. Why there? Why not? Somebody has some explaining to do
and it ain't us.
